Consequences of lack of sexuality education

Consequences of lack of sexuality education

I am Ngobi Asuman, from Bulubandi central B, Nakigo sub-county, aged 22. I was in primary seven when I got a girlfriend; and she was in Primary six. We loved each other and one day we had sex. After one month she told me that she had missed her periods and her mother had started suspecting that she was pregnant since she was vomiting continuously. After taking a test at the clinic, she came to my home and told me that she was pregnant.

One evening, policemen came to our home and arrested me for impregnating a girl. I spent two years in prison. I completed my punishment and I came back home, unfortunately my parents refused to send me back to school. My girlfriend’s parents decided to have their daughter abort in order to take her back to school. I felt like I had lost everything and my situation was miserable.

It is then that RHU came to our village for community sensitization; one of the sessions was about condom use. I now feel empowered because I have this knowledge. This experience will never happen to me again. I advise my fellow youth to use condoms to avoid such problems.
